Give Your Time • Take Your Time

A design challenge.

Stefan Sagmeister issued a design challenge to the students at RIT, “Touch someone’s heart with design.”

I chose to focus on how design change from something static to something that motivates someone to take action. I began by asking, “When do touching moments occur?” The answers I kept coming back to were 1) when we step out of our normal routine and 2) when we do things for others.

My project is a series of twelve clocks mounted on a large board. Instead of hands, each clock has a disk with a slit cut into it. Every five minutes one of the clocks reveals a message that asks the viewer to pause what they’re doing to spend time doing something for themselves or someone else.
